InterContinental Tashkent Review: Luxury in Uzbekistan’s Capital

Welcome to Tashkent, the stunning capital city of Uzbekistan. When planning a trip to Uzbekistan, choosing the right hotel in Tashkent can make a real difference to your experience of the country’s capital. For the first 10 nights of my Uzbekistan adventure, I stayed at the InterContinental Tashkent, a luxury hotel in the heart of the city.

Tashkent is a fascinating introduction to Uzbekistan, combining modern architecture, leafy boulevards, historic landmarks and the distinctive character of Central Asia. After arriving from Bangkok, I wanted a comfortable base from which to explore the city before continuing my journey along the ancient Silk Road.

Where Is the InterContinental Tashkent?

The InterContinental Tashkent is centrally located. Close to Hotel Uzbekistan, its position makes it a convenient base for visitors who want to explore the city while enjoying the comfort and facilities of an international luxury hotel.

One of the advantages of the location is the proximity to Amir Temur Square, one of Tashkent’s best-known landmarks. The square is surrounded by greenery and prominent city buildings, making it a pleasant place to walk and take photographs.

Amir Temur Square and Hotel Uzbekistan are a ten-minute walk from the hotel. Alay Bazaar is also within walking distance, offering an opportunity to explore a traditional market and hunt for local produce and souvenirs.

Other attractions, including Chorsu Bazaar and Minor Mosque, are a short taxi drive away, using the Yandex Go app. Tashkent’s metro system is another useful way to explore the city, particularly if you want to see some of its distinctive station architecture.

For travelers arriving in Tashkent, the hotel’s location provides a good starting point for discovering the capital. I used InterContinental Tashkent as my base in the city and did a great deal of walking to those attractions that are reasonably close, otherwise I took a taxi, for example to The Islamic Civilization Center, or the Tashkent metro.

My Room at the InterContinental Tashkent

One of the things I particularly wanted from my stay was a view of Amir Temur Square. I chose a room overlooking the square, giving me a different perspective on this part of the city.

The view is worth considering when choosing your room because not every room offers the same views. If the scenery from your window matters to you, I recommend checking the available room categories and requesting a suitable view when making your reservation.

InterContinental Tashkent has 216 rooms and suites, with accommodation options designed for different types of travelers. These include classic and premium rooms as well as larger suites for guests who want additional space.

As you would expect from an international luxury hotel, the property combines contemporary design with modern guest facilities. It is particularly well suited to travelers who value comfort after a busy day of sightseeing.

For my trip, the hotel provided an ideal base from which I could explore Tashkent before moving on to other destinations in Uzbekistan.

Hotel Facilities and Amenities

The InterContinental Tashkent offers considerably more than a place to sleep. Its facilities include a wellness club, swimming pool, gym, spa and several dining venues.

The E’quilibrium Spa and Fitness Club is one of the hotel’s main features. It includes a 30-metre infinity swimming pool overlooking the city, a fully equipped gym, steam and Finnish saunas and spa treatment facilities.

These amenities were particularly appealing when I visited Tashkent during the summer heat of August 2026. After spending time walking around the city, having access to a swimming pool and somewhere comfortable to relax was a welcome advantage of having chosen this hotel.

The hotel also has an executive lounge for eligible guests and a substantial convention center that caters to meetings and events. I was fortunate to be upgraded to executive lounge access and visited each evening of my visit.

The executive lounge features complimentary evening snacks and cocktails. With a selection of Asian and western hot and cold snacks, and a reasonable cocktail selection, you may be tempted to enjoy dinner at the executive lounge each evening rather than finding a restaurant locally. You also have the chance to enjoy the beautiful sunset views over Tashkent.

Although many visitors will spend most of their time exploring Tashkent, these facilities add value for travelers who prefer a more complete hotel experience.

Restaurants and Dining at the InterContinental Tashkent

Another feature of the InterContinental Tashkent is its selection of restaurants and bars.

Ember, the hotel’s signature restaurant, is located on the 17th floor and focuses on Asian-inspired cuisine and premium cuts of meat. Its elevated position makes it an option for guests looking to enjoy a meal with views across the city.

Embar is the associated seasonal outdoor bar, also on the 17th floor, offering panoramic skyline views and cocktails. Upon arriving from Bangkok, I took the chance to enjoy an evening meal with cocktails at Embar on my first evening in Tashkent. I enjoyed the outside terrace of Embar while watching the sun set on my first evening in a new city.

No’mad provides another dining option, with a concept inspired by Central Asian culture and ingredients. No’mad is where a wonderful breakfast is served, with an excellent selection of local and international dishes. I particularly enjoyed the ‘Morning Welcome Drink’ and the large selection of pastries and fresh fruit. Make sure also to request a cappuccino from their fancy coffee machines.

Chach, meanwhile, is the hotel’s lobby bar, serving coffee, pastries and other refreshments during the day.

Having several venues within the hotel is convenient if you want an evening without going out again after a long day of sightseeing. However, Tashkent also has plenty of restaurants beyond the hotel, so I would recommend exploring the local food scene during your stay rather than relying entirely on hotel dining.

Is the Location Good for Sightseeing?

For me, one of the main considerations when choosing a city hotel is how easily I can get out and explore independently. InterContinental Tashkent is well placed for visiting Amir Temur Square and exploring the surrounding central districts. The State Museum of the Temurids is just 350 meters from the hotel, making the museum easy to visit as one of the first attractions of your day.

Tashkent’s other attractions, such as Chorsu Bazaar and Minor Mosque, are a short taxi ride away, using the very easy and reasonably priced Yandex Go app.

Tashkent’s metro is worth experiencing in its own right. Some stations are known for their striking architectural details, making a metro journey an attraction as well as a practical way to get around.

Is the InterContinental Tashkent Worth the Money?

The InterContinental Tashkent is a luxury property, so it is not the cheapest accommodation option in the city. Whether it represents good value depends on your budget and how much you appreciate the additional comfort, facilities and service associated with this category of hotel.

If you are looking for budget accommodation and plan to spend most of your time sightseeing, a less expensive hotel may be sufficient. On the other hand, if you prefer a spacious modern hotel, a central location, extensive facilities and the option of a room overlooking Amir Temur Square, the InterContinental Tashkent deserves consideration.

I stayed in Tashkent for 10 days, visiting various sites around the city, as well as doing a day tour to Shymkent in Kazakhstan and a day tour to the Solar Furnace, including Amirsoy and the Charvak Reservoir.

I enjoyed my stay at The InterContinental Tashkent. Its ideal location, range of restaurants, swimming pool and wellness facilities make it suitable for travelers who want comfort alongside their sightseeing. The staff took good care of me and were excellent in all respects. I was even in touch with the concierge before arriving to Uzbekistan to request train tickets between Tashkent and Samarkand and Samarkand and Bukhara.

For my Uzbekistan itinerary, Tashkent was the starting point for a longer journey that would take me to Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva. Choosing a comfortable hotel at the beginning of that adventure was a practical way to settle in before continuing across the country.
