Alda Hotel, Reykjavik, Iceland – Central Hotel, Great for Shopping

Welcome to Reykjavik and the centrally located Alda Hotel, right in the middle of the shopping district. I stayed at Alda Hotel in Reykjavík, Iceland for the nights of 20 June and then again for the nights of 2 to 4 July 2017.  The hotel is centrally located right on the main shopping street in Reykjavik.  You really would battle to find a better location right on Laugavegur Street. As you step out the front door of the hotel you are offered a selection of tourist and regular shops and many restaurants open all hours of the day.

I only had breakfast on my first morning since it was included in the room rate. That was excellent with a great selection and wonderful coffee. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Room 415, in which I stayed on my return visit to Reykjavic after I had completed the Golden Circle around Iceland, has a nice common outdoor area where you can wander around to see the views over the sea and towards Hallgrímskirkja, the central church in Reykjavik. What I suggest you do is ask for a room on the upper level as you will have better views of the street below and you may even catch a glimpse of the sea in the distance.

Parking is absolutely impossible outside of the hotel. I am not sure whether the hotel has underground parking for guests. I suggest you do not take a rental car until you can leave the hotel or return the rental car before going to the hotel. If you do manage to get parking on the street, you will be constantly worried that you will be parked in or receive a parking ticket or otherwise having to move your car. To be honest, it is really not worth taking your rental car until you leave the hotel, or make sure that you return it before heading to the hotel.

Would I recommend this hotel?  Yes.  For its central location this is the ideal hotel for a few nights in Reykjavik. Consider Alda Hotel for when you are next in the Iceland capital.
