One of the least impressive temples in Sukhothai, but still worth a visit, Wat Chang Lom stands alone, a short walk from the Legendha Sukhothai Resort. Infrequently visited by tourists, you will likely have the temple to yourself when you arrive.
Wat Chang Lom is known for its beautiful architecture and historical importance, dating back to the Sukhothai era, which was from the 13th to 15th centuries. It reflects the impressive artistic and cultural achievements of this period. The temple is distinctive for its chedi (stupa), which is designed in the shape of a lotus flower. The chedi is surrounded by 39 elephant sculptures, symbolizing strength and stability. You will be spoiled for choice as to which elephant you would like to photograph, some more impressive than others.
Wat Chang Lom is situated within the larger Sukhothai Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which contains numerous ancient ruins and temples from the Sukhothai Kingdom, including the beautiful Wat Si Chum. The temple grounds are well maintained. The temple site has undergone restoration efforts to preserve its historical and cultural value, allowing visitors to appreciate its beauty and significance. Wat Chang Lom demonstrates the blending of local and Khmer architectural styles, showcasing influences from neighboring regions while maintaining local traditions.

Taking less than an hour to explore, the ideal time to visit the temple would be just before sunset, allowing time to wander around and capture some lovely photos during the golden hour, after which you can retreat to your hotel in Sukhothai and enjoy an evening cocktail.
There is also a Wat Chang Lom in Si Satchanalai District in Sukhothai so make sure that you visit the one that you plan to visit. The one covered by this post is Wat Chang Lom in Mueang District in Sukhothai. I trust that you will enjoy your brief visit to Wat Chang Lom.
