Sirarun Resort: Tranquility on Ban Krut Beach, Central Thailand

Tucked away on the beautiful shores of Ban Krut Beach in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Sirarun Resort is a tranquil resort just two hours’ drive south from the seaside town of Hua Hin. Billing itself as ‘A Place of Pure Happiness’, they describe themselves as a ‘tranquil escape where natural beauty meets modern comfort’.

With six villa types, ranging from the basic Garden View Villa to the elaborate Beachfront Pool Villa, you are spoiled for choice as to how you prefer to spend your days. I stayed in the Garden View Villa, set away from the pools, but still with easy access to the resort, dining area and gym.

The resort is big enough to offer these room choices, yet small enough to feel intimate and welcoming. Even the Garden View Villa is large with an impressive bathroom. The resort setting is quietly beautiful, surrounded by tropical greenery and right on the beach, giving guests a sense of being a little removed from the hustle of tourist crowds. There is even a deer enclosure on the property with about 30 deer so make sure you say Hello to them, perhaps taking them carrots from the dining area. As a town, Ban Krut is generally reasonably quiet and with Sirarun Resort being tucked away right on the beach you will feel as if you have the resort to yourself for most of your stay.

As opposed to the Garden View Villa, the Beachfront Pool Villa offers direct beach access, a private pool space and panoramic sea views. Although at the top end of the budget for rooms at Sirarun Resort, the Beachfront Pool Villa is a great choice if you want to wake up to the sound of waves crashing along the beach, perhaps with your morning coffee in hand.

All rooms are equipped with Wi-Fi, air conditioning, flat screen TVs, minibars, private balconies or patios and large bathrooms with modern amenities. Even the minibar is restocked daily for zero charge, a nice touch for a resort of this nature and price point. The beds are comfortable and the resort was very quiet when I was there.

Given that Sirarun Resort is reasonably remote, especially if you do not have your own transport, your only real dining option is the on-site Araya Restaurant. For breakfast you are given a choice from an al-a-carte menu as well as the standard options like pancakes, juices and a great selection of coffee and tea.

The dinner menu is extensive, providing a good selection between Thai and western dishes. If you really cannot find something to eat on their extensive dinner menu, you could be tempted to take a stroll down the beach to one of the neighboring resorts but I suggest that you will be fine at Sirarun Resort when it comes to food.

Even the cocktail selection will see you spend a good few minutes each round deciding on which colorful drink to try next. They do tend to go down fairly easily, especially if you are relaxing on the blue puffy bean bags along the deck around the edge of the upper pool.

The gym is reasonably basic. However, if your gym standards are not too high you should be able to get in a workout on the equipment that is provided.

What I enjoyed most about Sirarun Resort was the chance to relax along a quiet beach, enjoying an afternoon swim in the sea on the day that I arrived. The two pools, the adult pool closer to the sea and the children’s pool closer to the restaurant, allow the perfect chance to relax as you gaze out over the water, perhaps while enjoying your evening cocktails. Unlike when I visited The Chill Resort & Spa on Koh Chang which faces west, Sirarun Resort faces east so you will not be spoiled by stunning sunsets. However, you will still enjoy the change in colors of the sky as the sun slowly sinks below the western horizon just as you order another cocktail before heading to dinner, perhaps while sitting in one of the three swings on the beach overlooking the Gulf of Thailand.

Sirarun Resort is a great choice as a quick weekend getaway from Hua Hin further up the coast. Consider extending your stay to explore the beautiful temples around the area. I particularly enjoyed Phra Mahathat Chedi Phakdee Prakat, close to Phraphut Kiti Sirichai, where I spent nearly two hours exploring the temple and the large Buddha statue before enjoying a refreshing fresh coconut drink followed by a not so diet friendly small ice-cream.

I really enjoyed my short staycation to Sirarun Resort and, given its proximity to Hua Hin, plan to visit regularly outside of the busy tourist season in Thailand. I also recommend the resort for couples looking for a quiet place to spend a few days. Many times it felt like I was the only person at the resort which was a truly wonderful way to spend two enjoyable evenings in a reasonably remote part of central Thailand.
