Hotel Klaustur, Iceland – A Serious Upgrade Required

This was the second hotel at which I stayed on my vacation around the ring-road of iceland. I stayed at Hotel Klaustur for the night of 22 June 2017. To be quite honest, this hotel isn’t wonderful. Initial impressions are of an old school dormitory that was converted into a hotel. The reception area is nice and clean and organized, as you would expect. However, the upstairs passage area could so with a carpet-clean, as could the rooms. I fail to understand how hotels these days have carpets in the rooms, and horrible green ones at that (that could also do with a clean). Given that I was only there for one night it was not too much of an issue.

The location of the hotel isn’t anything special either. There are no wonderful views from the bedroom window. My room had a view onto the parking area outside.

The room is of adequate size and reasonably comfortable. The bathroom itself is fine but the shower is really SMALL. The room could really do with an upgrade – change of carpets (or perhaps wooden flooring) and upgrade of the bathroom specifically.

The restaurant had closed by the time I arrived but I managed to organize a hamburger as the very final order for the evening. The staff were friendly and helpful which was much appreciated. I arrived late into the afternoon after I did various day tours, including my visit to the DC-3 plane wreck on Sólheimasandur beach.

The breakfast in the morning felt like a movie line with tourists from a bus company waiting for the breakfast area to open before rushing in to have food before heading out for the day. The breakfast selection is OK though not wonderful.

Would I recommend this hotel? No. But then again I am not sure whether there are any other better options in the area so it is probably OK for one night. If you really insist on staying at this hotel then you can find Hotel Klaustur on Google Maps.
