Hotel Grimsborgir, Iceland – Golden Circle Luxury

I stayed at Hotel Grimsborgir for the night of 21 June 2017 on my first stop around Iceland’s Golden Circle. Having driven from Reykjavik to Selfoss, I arrived mid-afternoon and checked into the hotel.  The chocolate covered licorice in the reception area is just one of the many nice touches throughout the hotel, and it started my obsession with the amazing selection of confectionery that is available around Iceland. I checked into the room before heading out again to explore Kerið, the volcanic crater-lake about 10 minutes from the hotel, located here. Make sure you visit this fascinating lake while in the area.

The hotel is lovely, has some great facilities and wonderful sunset views, although it didn’t get too dark since it was summer when I was there. The room is large, clean and quiet. The white décor presents a crisp, clean look and you feel as if you have walked into a Pottery Barn brochure, in a good way.

You can park your car reasonably close to the room which makes the transport of luggage easy. There is a Jacuzzi at the end of the passage, outside, overlooking nature. I didn’t try it but that’s a nice addition to the hotel.

I had dinner in the hotel which is when I was first exposed to the high prices of Iceland. If I remember correctly, the steak was 46 US dollars with drinks and other food being similarly highly priced. The food was exceptional and well presented. The staff are really friendly. The breakfast was good too. The selection is reasonable and the coffee machine state of the art.

All in all I enjoyed my one-night stay at Hotel Grimsborgir and would recommend this hotel if you find yourself in this part of Iceland. It was one of the nicest hotels at which I stayed on my 17 nights around Iceland. You can find the hotel on Google Maps here.
