If you’re dreaming of a beachside retreat that mixes modern comforts with laid-back Thai charm, Ramada Resort by Wyndham Khao Lak is one of the best places in southern Thailand for a chilled vacation. Just 90 minutes north of Phuket, on the west coast of Thailand on the Andaman Sea, the resort blends a peaceful coastal vibe with easy access to some of Khao Lak’s best attractions, restaurants and natural wonders.

Resort Location
Tucked away on Bang Niang Beach, Ramada Resort is in the Bang Niang area of Khao Lak, a scenic stretch of sandy shoreline just minutes from local attractions. Stepping out of the front entrance to the hotel and walking five minutes down the road, you will come to local restaurants, massage places, small shops and local bars, some more upmarket than others. The resort’s beachfront position means you can step right out onto golden Andaman sands or simply enjoy the sound of the waves from the balcony of your room.
I had specific requirements when I was choosing between hotels in Khao Lak. I wanted to stay at a resort that is right on the beach, and I wanted a resort that is within walking distance to the restaurants, night life and massages places. Finally, I wanted a resort that is quiet and peaceful. I eventually settled on Ramada Resort by Wyndham Khao Lak.
The location is especially ideal if you want to be close to outdoor adventure but still savor a tranquil setting. Bang Niang Beach is at your doorstep, and the wider Khao Lak region, including lush jungles, waterfalls, and marine parks, is within easy reach by car.
Comfortable Rooms with Tropical Views
The resort offers a variety of room types, from standard garden views to oceanfront villas and private pool rooms. Each room is designed with comfort in mind: air conditioning, big flat-screen TVs, balconies or terraces and free Wi-Fi are standard perks. The overall vibe is relaxed yet with modern facilities, ideal for couples, families and solo travelers alike.
Dining Options: Restaurants and Bars Worth Visiting
One of the resort’s strengths is its dining options. You won’t have to go far for quality meals and drinks, and they taste even better with the ocean breeze. I particularly enjoyed heading down to Sassi’s Beach Club around 5PM, just as the sun was going down, and ordering a cocktail or two to wind down the day. The photo opportunities during golden hour, with the resort facing the setting sun, will have your Instagram followers wishing they could join you for your exotic Thai vacation.

Breakfast is served on the ground floor of the hotel, close to the gym. The restaurant serves a hearty American-style buffet breakfast each morning, with fresh bread, eggs, fruits, salads and Thai options to kick-start your day. It’s an especially enjoyable way to fuel up before a beach walk or day trip. Make sure to order more than one cappuccino before heading out on your day trip from Khao Lak.
If you’re craving lunch or dinner with a view, Sassi’s Beach Club is the go-to spot. It blends Thai and international cuisine, from fresh seafood to pizzas and local favorites, all served with a backdrop of glittering sea and sand. I only ate at Sassi’s Beach Club on one night of the eight that I stayed at the hotel, preferring instead to enjoy evening cocktails at the hotel before walking the short distance from the hotel entrance down the road where I was spoiled for choice as to what I would like to eat for the evening meal.
Staying Active: Gym, Fitness and Wellness
If you like to stay active on holiday, Ramada has you covered. The fitness center is well equipped for strength and cardio work, so you won’t miss a beat in your routine. Free bicycle rentals let you explore the nearby lanes and beach paths, or you can take part in optional activities like yoga or paddle-boarding right at the resort.
After your workout, the resort’s spa is the perfect place to unwind. Set amid tropical foliage, the spa offers a range of Thai and Western wellness treatments, including herbal steam rooms, saunas, body scrubs, facials and aromatherapy. The Spa is ideal for relaxing tired muscles or simply treating yourself to a little luxury. I did not visit The Spa when I stayed at the resort, preferring instead to walk five minutes down the road to support the local massage places.

The Pool and Beach Scene
The outdoor pool is a highlight of the resort: a large free-form design that sits just steps from the beach. Sun loungers and umbrellas make it easy to lounge for hours, while staff serve refreshing drinks and snacks from the pool bar. Whether you’re here with family or as a couple, or as a solo traveler like me, it’s a great spot to soak up the tropical sunshine.
Things To Do Outside the Resort
While the resort itself offers plenty to keep you busy, Khao Lak’s surroundings are packed with adventure and culture. One of the biggest draws is the chance to explore the Similan Islands and Surin Islands, world-class destinations for snorkeling, diving and marine life-spotting. Boat trips leave daily, often with opportunities to swim over vibrant coral reefs and spot sea turtles in crystal waters.
If you prefer stunning lagoons and dramatic limestone karsts, a day trip to Phang Nga Bay is unmissable. You can paddle a kayak through mangrove forests, cruise by traditional fishing villages, or even tour famous spots like James Bond Island by speedboat or long-tail boat.
Back on land, the area around Khao Lak is rich with natural beauty. From white-water rafting and jungle adventures to surfing and beach breaks, there’s something for every type of adventurer. Surfing lessons and board rentals are easy to arrange when conditions are suitable.
Closer to the resort, you’ll find local markets, such as Bang Niang Market, that come alive in the evenings with fresh seafood, tropical fruits and street food vendors. It’s a great place to mingle with locals, sample authentic Thai dishes and soak up the lively atmosphere, just 15 minutes’ walk from the resort.
You may even want to visit Khao Lak’s Tsunami Memorial where Police Boat Number 813 was washed two kilometers inland and now rests where the tsunami waves of 26 December 2004 dropped it.
