Buri Rasa Resort Koh Samui: Boutique Elegance in the Heart of Chaweng

Set directly on the soft sands of Chaweng Beach, Buri Rasa Village Koh Samui is a refined boutique retreat that combines beachfront serenity with the convenience of one of the island’s most popular locations. Known for its understated luxury, warm service and stylish design, Buri Rasa offers a calm escape while remaining within easy reach of Chaweng’s shops, restaurants and nightlife. For travelers who want comfort, a chilled atmosphere and direct beach access without the feel of a large resort, Buri Rasa is an excellent choice.

I booked at Buri Rasa as it was ranked Number 3 on TripAdvisor for resorts on Koh Samui at the time of my visit. While the resort is absolutely fine, I am not sure that I agree that it should be ranked so highly among hotels on Koh Samui on TripAdvisor.

Buri Rasa enjoys a highly desirable beachfront location on Chaweng Beach, the most popular tourist beack on Koh Samui. Despite being close to the action, the resort feels peaceful and private thanks to its thoughtful layout and lush landscaping. Guests can walk directly from the resort onto the beach, where soft white sand and calm turquoise waters create an inviting setting for swimming, sunbathing or long shoreline walks. I found the most magnificent cocktail bar, Monkey Bay Beach Bar, just 150 meters along the beach, where they serve 99 baht cocktails during their happy hours between 5PM and 8PM. Of the 10 nights that I was on Koh Samui, I visited Monkey Bay Beach Bar five times.

Buri Rasa Village is conveniently located just a short drive from Samui International Airport, making arrivals and departures quick and hassle-free. Otherwise, book your tickets on the ferry across from Donsak Pier to Koh Samui. Chaweng’s shopping areas, massage shops, cafés and nightlife venues are all within walking distance, allowing guests to explore easily without relying on transport. For those wishing to venture further, popular attractions such as Wat Plai Laem, Big Buddha Temple (Wat Phra Yai) and Fisherman’s Village are only a drive away. I drove my car from Hua Hin to the Donsak Pier in Surat Thani and then took the ferry across to Koh Samui so I was able to explore at leisure around the island.

One thing about Buri Rasa is that parking is very limited, just four parking places for guests’ cars. Fortunately, upon my arrival, I was able to agree that a parking spot be reserved for me for the 10 days of my visit. However, getting my car in and out of the parking garage was always a headache with the large number of motorbikes parked in the parking garage.

Buri Rasa Resort features a collection of elegantly designed rooms and suites that focus on comfort, privacy and refined aesthetics. The décor blends contemporary design with subtle Thai influences, using warm tones, natural materials and soft lighting to create a relaxing atmosphere. There are various room styles from which to choose at Buri Rasa Resort.

The entry-level Boutique Veranda rooms are spacious and thoughtfully laid out, offering a peaceful retreat after a day at the beach. They feature comfortable king-size or twin beds, stylish bathrooms, work desks and private balconies or terraces. Many overlook the garden or pool area, adding to the tranquil feel.

A popular choice for couples, the Boutique Pool Retreat rooms allow guests to step directly from their terrace into their private swimming pool. These rooms offer added privacy and convenience, perfect for those who enjoy early morning swims or relaxing dips throughout the day.

For guests seeking even more space, Buri Rasa’s Boutique Ocean Retreat rooms provide larger living areas, enhanced amenities and refined design touches. Some feature partial sea views or private outdoor areas, making them ideal for honeymooners or travelers celebrating a special occasion.

All rooms are equipped with modern comforts such as air conditioning, flat-screen TVs, Wi-Fi, minibars, safes and high-quality bath products. One thing to note, however, is that despite the Buri Rasa reviews on TripAdvisor stating that the resort is really quiet, I was still able to hear the distant noise of music from the nearby clubs but this was not loud enough to be annoying, and once the air-conditioners were on it became less of a problem.

The resort’s swimming pool area is one of its standout features. Located right alongside the beach, close to the dining area, guests can choose whether to relax in the pool or the sea on a hot Thailand day. Sun loungers and shaded seating areas line the pool, offering plenty of space to relax with a book or a drink while gazing over the Gulf of Thailand.

The pool bar at The Beach Club serves refreshing cocktails, juices and light snacks throughout the day, making it easy to spend hours unwinding without leaving the area. In the evenings, soft lighting and gentle music transform the pool area into a relaxed, romantic setting.

Dining at Buri Rasa focuses on quality ingredients, fresh flavors and a relaxed atmosphere. The resort’s restaurant serves daily breakfast as well as lunch and dinner, offering a menu that blends Thai specialties with international favorites. I only chose to have breakfast at the resort, preferring the flexibility of choosing different dining options each evening along the main street right outside Buri Rasa.

Breakfast features a generous selection of tropical fruits, pastries, eggs made to order, Thai dishes, and freshly brewed coffee. I enjoyed breakfast at the resort each day, in the open-air setting with views toward the sea and the pool.

Just steps away from Buri Rasa is Chaweng Beach. Guests can enjoy sunrise walks, beach lounging or water activities directly in front of the resort. The beach location is especially appealing for those who want to combine relaxation with easy access to restaurants and entertainment nearby.

Chaweng’s vibrant dining scene is also right outside the resort, giving guests endless options ranging from casual beach restaurants to upscale dining venues. On my second evening, I enjoyed dinner at Salt Society at the Centara Reserve Samui. On my third evening, I selected The Page alongside the beach at The Library.

Staying at Buri Rasa places you in the heart of Koh Samui’s most lively district. Chaweng offers everything from shopping malls, local markets, nightlife, beach clubs and wellness spas. Guests can easily book island tours, snorkeling trips or boat excursions to nearby Koh Phangan or Koh Tao. Cultural attractions such as Wat Plai Laem, Big Buddha and scenic viewpoints are within easy reach, making it simple to balance beach time with sightseeing.

In summary, Buri Rasa Resort Koh Samui offers a harmonious blend of style, comfort and location. With its beachfront setting in Chaweng, elegant rooms, inviting pool area and relaxed dining options, it appeals to travelers seeking a boutique experience with easy access to the island’s energy. During my first ever visit to Thailand, and to Koh Samui, in November 2005, I stayed at Baan Haad Ngam Boutique Resort, a little further north along Chaweng Beach than Buri Rasa.

Whether you are visiting Koh Samui for a romantic getaway, a relaxing holiday or a stylish beach escape, Buri Rasa delivers a warm and memorable stay in one of Koh Samui’s most desirable locations.
