Puro 1484 – Dining on High in the UAE

“That is so cool”, my dad exclaimed as we made our way slowly up Jebel Jais towards Puro 1484. “I never thought I would be having lunch at the highest restaurant in the United Arab Emirates“. This was my dad’s eighth visit to the UAE and our second visit to the scenic mountain of Jebel Jais.

The day started off at the Hampton by Hilton on Marjan Island where we had stayed for three nights while on a staycation in the beautiful emirate of Ras Al-Khaimah. Having checked out shortly after breakfast, we made our way slowly towards the base of Jebel Jais, found on Google Maps here. The first stop of the day was at Wadi Bih Dam and the climb up the steps to the dam wall. Here you will enjoy lovely views of the surrounding mountains and the beautiful clear blue sky. The dam itself, however, has never been full on the many times that I have visited Ras Al-Khaimah.

After visiting Wadi Bih Dam we headed back onto the long and winding tar road that slowly ascends Jebel Jais. Make sure that you stop along the way at the various roadside points so that you can say Hello to the goats and take some photo’s of the villages on the other side of the mountain.

Your next stop should be the Jebel Jais Viewing Deck Park. There is a nominal entry fee of AED 5 per person but believe me when I tell you that this is probably the best five dirhams you will ever spend. The views from the viewing deck over towards the coast are nothing short of spectacular. We enjoyed such beautiful, sunny weather when we were there, and you should hopefully have the same. You can easily spend 45 minutes at the Viewing Deck Park and take good photos in the area. Make sure you take some photos at the very large UAE flag while at the viewing deck.

And now to lunch. As you work your way up Jebel Jais you will come across a security checkpoint. Make sure that you tell them you have a reservation at Puro 1484 and you should be able to access the rest of the road heading up to the Jais Adventure Park where you will find Puro 1484.

Knowing that my dad and stepmom would be in the UAE, I had made the reservation at Puro 1484 about six weeks before their visit, yet did not tell them. It was a lovely surprise when I informed them that instead of the sandwiches we had packed for lunch we would be enjoying lunch at Puro 1484 with its amazing views over the surrounding mountains.

We enjoyed our lunch at Puro 1484, spending around 90 minutes enjoying the food, the views and the beautiful, clear blue sky. When you visit Puro 1484, tell them that you visited after reading the amazing review on the Two Passports Packed website (and then they will, unfortunately, ask you ‘Who on Earth is That?’). Make sure that you make a reservation in advance of your visit, or you will not be able to access the restaurant. You can contact them through Instagram here.
