You have booked your vacation to fascinating Uzbekistan and you have planned some day tours into neighboring Tajikistan. Now you are wondering: ‘Do I need a visa for Tajikistan if I am only going on a Day Tour?’.
When planning my trip to Uzbekistan, I added two day tours into Tajikistan to my schedule. Since I am traveling on a UK passport I had to check whether I needed a visa to cross from Uzbekistan into Tajikistan. This blog post discusses what I learned and the process that I went through to apply for my visa for Tajikistan, current as of July 2026.

Tajikistan Visa Requirements
Based on the ‘Visa Policy of Tajikistan’, I learned that holders of a UK passport DO require a visa to travel from Uzbekistan to Tajikistan, even if it is just for a day tour. This is confirmed by the UK Government’s Foreign Travel Advice for citizens traveling to Tajikistan.
Based on the ‘Visa Policy of Tajikistan’, ‘Citizens of the following countries and territories may obtain a single or multiple entry e-Visa for USD 30 or USD 50 respectively for a maximum stay of 60 days within 90 days’. The United Kingdom is mentioned on that list.
I also confirmed this information with my day tour providers, both of whom confirmed that I would require a visa for Tajikistan to cross the border from Uzbekistan on a day tour.
As such, I asked ChatGPT for the best website through which I could apply for my visa for Tajikistan. I was recommended to the Tajikistan e-Visa Application website through which I submitted my request for a visa for Tajikistan.
Tajikistan Visa Application Process
The Application Form: Step 1 of 4
The first step in applying for the Tajikistan visa is to complete the application form. In Step 1, you will be asked for the ‘Application Data’ as shown in the screen print below. Since I planned for two day tours into Tajikistan I selected the multiple-entry visa option.
The Application Form: Step 2 of 4
In Step 2, you will be asked to upload a copy of your passport in either PDF, JPEG, GIF, BMP or PNG format. The maximum file size is 1 megabyte. A screen print is shown below.
The Application Form: Step 3 of 4
In Step 3, you will be asked to check and confirm that all the information you captured and uploaded is correct. You will be informed that the processing fee for a single-entry visa is USD 30, while the processing fee for a multiple-entry visa is USD 50.
I encountered an error a few times when I was trying to complete Step 3, specifically the gender field. I kept going back and changing the answer and then selecting ‘Male’ again and eventually I was able to get the system to move forward to Step 4.
The Application Form: Step 4 of 4
Once you have confirmed the information in Step 3, you should be taken to the Tajikistan Visa Payments Page. I opted to pay with a Visa card, for which an extra charge of USD 1.25 was added as the ‘Bank Fee’. I could not get the payment to go through on first attempt so I was stuck temporarily.
After about 30 minutes I received an auto-e-mail from the Tajikistan Visa System saying that the information was submitted by that payment had not been made. I was instructed to use the ‘Manage Your Application’ function to retrieve my application and make payment before the application would be reviewed.
To access your application, you will need to enter your 1) E-mail Address, 2) Passport Number and 3) Your Date of Birth. You should then see the status as ‘Pending for Payment’ and be given the opportunity to ‘Pay’. It took me a few tries, spaced an hour or so apart, before the system updated and I was able to see the ‘Pay’ option.
The Payment Stage
After a few hours, after the system updated, I was able to log into my application and see the ‘Pay’ option. I remitted payment using my credit card and received the ‘Success’ screen as shown below. Within five minutes I received an auto-confirmation e-mail from the Tajikistan Visa Application System stating that payment had been received and that my application was under review.
The Review / Approval Stage
I paid for my application on Thursday, 9 July 2026. I will update this section once I have news of how long it took for the visa to be approved.
Conclusion
The application process for the Tajikistan visa is fairly straightforward, except for the system challenges with specifying your gender. Also, the payment stage can be quite tricky and you will likely have to log back into the system after a few hours to actually make the payment. However, given that you need to have a visa for Tajikistan when doing a day tour from Uzbekistan, it is a process that you will have to endure if you are to visit yet another fascinating country on your bucket list.
