Location and Proximity to the Main Attractions

Located close to University Boulevard, the five-star Mövenpick Hotel Samarkand is ideally positioned for exploring the historic city. The hotel is within walking distance of several major sights, making it a convenient base for independent travelers who prefer to explore at their own pace.

The Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum, the final resting place of the conqueror Amir Temur, is just 10 minutes’ walk from the hotel. Registan Square, Samarkand’s most famous landmark, is about 15 minutes’ walk away.

The Bibi-Khanym Mosque, the Ulugbek Observatory and the other historic monuments can be reached on foot or by a short taxi ride, ideally using Yandex Go, depending on how much walking you want to do. Even the recently re-opened Imam Al-Bukhari Memorial Complex is just 35 minutes away by taxi.

The central location is particularly useful if you want to return to the hotel between sightseeing outings rather than spend the entire day exploring without a break.

Rooms and Comfort

The hotel offers a range of accommodation options, from standard double and twin rooms to suites and larger family apartments. Rooms feature contemporary furnishings, air conditioning, modern bathrooms, Wi-Fi and tea- and coffee-making facilities.

After a day in Samarkand’s heat, having a comfortable room in which to cool down and recharge is a welcome advantage, perhaps before walking back to Registan Square for the evening light show. The choice of room categories also makes the property suitable for couples, families and travelers who prefer additional living space.

Restaurants and Dining Options

There are many dining options within the hotel, so you do not necessarily need to head out every evening. The hotel’s restaurants serve a selection of Uzbek, European and Turkish dishes, giving guests the opportunity to try local flavors alongside more familiar international food. The lobby bar provides another place to relax with an evening cocktail, before indulging in your evening meal. I had dinner at the hotel three of the six nights that I spent in Samarkand.

Honestly, I did not find a great number of restaurants outside the hotel. I found a few restaurants close to Registan Square which were fine, otherwise you could even take a taxi ride to The Eternal City for a fun evening.

Indoor and Outdoor Swimming Pools

One of the hotel’s appealing features is its choice of swimming pools. The outdoor pool is particularly attractive during Samarkand’s hot summer months, offering somewhere to cool off and relax after visiting the city’s monuments.

There is also an indoor heated pool, including a sauna and steam room, which provides an alternative option when the weather is less suitable for swimming outdoors. Having both options is a useful advantage for guests visiting at different times of the year.

The Lobby and Overall Atmosphere

The hotel’s spacious lobby provides a welcoming central area for arriving, meeting fellow travelers or relaxing between outings. With dining and bar facilities nearby, it is more than simply a place to check in and collect your room key. With a selection of gift shops, you are bound to find something for your friends back home.

Overall Experience

Mövenpick Hotel Samarkand offers a convenient combination of location, accommodation, dining and leisure facilities. For travelers who want to explore Samarkand’s historic attractions while enjoying the comforts of a full-service hotel, you will be glad to have chosen this hotel.
