Bukhara is a city best explored on foot. Its historic streets, ancient trading domes, mosques and madrasahs are spread across an area that invites you to wander without too much attention to the clock. Choosing the right hotel can make a considerable difference to that experience. Mercure Bukhara Old Town is ideally located if you would like to enjoy discovering Bukhara’s Old Town rather than traveling back and forth from further away.

The impressive Poi-Kalyan complex, with its famous Kalyan Minaret, can be reached on foot in around ten minutes. Its location makes spontaneous exploring easy. You can head out in the morning, return to the hotel for a break during the heat of the day and venture out again later, perhaps for dinner at one of Bukhara’s best restaurants.
A Modern Hotel with a Sense of Place
Mercure Bukhara Old Town is a four-star property that draws on Bukhara’s architectural character rather than feeling like a standard international hotel dropped into the middle of the Old Town. Traditional design influences, decorative woodwork and handmade ceramics help connect the property with its surroundings.

That balance between local character and familiar hotel comforts is part of its appeal. After a day spent navigating historic streets and visiting centuries-old buildings, having a comfortable, contemporary place to return to is an enjoyable way to spend your vacation in Bukhara.
The hotel has 57 rooms spread over three floors. The overall design aims to retain a connection with the city’s traditional aesthetic.
More Than Somewhere to Sleep
One feature that sets Mercure Bukhara Old Town apart from some of the smaller hotels in Bukhara is its range of facilities. There is an indoor swimming pool measuring approximately 4 by 14 meters, offering the chance to cool off after a day outdoors. The wellness area includes a spa, a Finnish sauna and a hammam inspired by traditional 16th-century bathing architecture.
The hammam is particularly appropriate for a hotel in a city with such a long history of trade, travel and bathing traditions. It gives the property an additional connection to the destination, rather than simply providing another item on an amenities list.
The indoor pool is complemented by the outdoor pool, ideal as a place to relax while enjoying your evening cocktail if you choose not to venture back to The Old Town for dinner.
Dining is another attraction at the hotel. The Saffron rooftop restaurant and terrace offer a different perspective on Bukhara, with views across the surrounding Old Town. It is an appealing option for an evening meal or a drink without having to venture out again. Breakfast is available at the hotel, while room service provides another convenient choice. Should you choose to venture back to The Old Town, some of the best restaurants of Bukhara are a short walk away, and you get to enjoy the beautiful sunset over the ancient city.

Is the Mercure Bukhara Old Town Worth Considering?
For travelers who want to explore Bukhara independently, location is arguably the hotel’s strongest selling point. Many of the city’s principal sights are within comfortable walking distance, and the combination of two pools, spa facilities and rooftop dining gives guests plenty of reasons to spend some time at the property too.
It may not be the choice for someone specifically seeking a small, intimate guesthouse with a highly personal atmosphere. However, for those who appreciate the consistency of an international hotel brand while still wanting to stay close to Bukhara’s historic heart, the Mercure is the ideal hotel. The hotel is within walking distance of The Ark of Bukhara and the Bukhara Dungeon.
I enjoyed the five nights that I stayed at Mercure Bukhara Old Town and would stay there again if I was to visit Bukhara for a second time.
