“How cool is that?” I thought as my tour guide said that I would be staying overnight in a cave. I stayed at the Fresco Cave Suites and Mansions on the evening of 17 December 2014. I stayed in Room 108 after reviewing the various options from their website. The hotel was reasonably quiet during the ‘off-season’, i.e. outside of the main tourist times. The hotel is wonderful and the rooms are warm and cozy. The hotel is well located in the town of Ürgüp, within walking distance to the town just down the hill (three minutes).
The reception area / main relaxing area of the hotel is wonderful with lovely comfortable purple chairs. There is a TV with shows about Cappadocia and what there is to do in the area. The breakfast selection is good. Even after checking out I returned to the hotel to await my transfer to the airport for the 10PM flight – no hassles at all.
I would definitely consider this hotel again should I return to the area. What a treat to be able to stay in a cave hotel overnight. A wonderful highlight of my trip to Turkey.
What I recommend you do while in the area is a hot-air balloon ride over Ürgüp. I did my balloon ride with Urgup Balloons. You will be woken well before sunrise and taken to their launch site. After a morning coffee and a short safety briefing you will be taken to the site from where the balloon is launched, and begin your journey of amazing memories.
After you have enjoyed your morning balloon ride, spend the afternoon at the Göreme Open-Air Museum. Here you will enjoy an historical overview of Byzantine life, interspersed with wonderful rock formations still used for housing and storage.
I enjoyed my short visit to Fresco Cave Suites and Mansions in Ürgüp and will consider the hotel again should I find myself in Cappadocia. Find the hotel on Google Maps here.
