Bab Al-Nojoum Bateen Liwa: Desert Oasis in the Western Region

I can honestly and without reservation say that this is one of the best resorts I have ever visited around the world. If you are looking for an oasis of calm in stunning desert scenery then you should definitely visit the Bab Al-Nojoum Bateen Liwa resort in the western region of the United Arab Emirates, found here on Google Maps.

My dad and I were spending the day around the Liwa area, heading towards the Moreeb Dune, when we came across the entrance to the Bab Al-Nojoum Bateen Liwa resort. Having left early from the hotel at which we stayed in Liwa, the Western Hotel Ghayathi, it was time for coffee.

We mentioned to the security guard that would like to visit the resort and have a coffee break. With the resort having only recently been opened, he welcomed us to continue our drive, along a lovely tarred road winding through the sand dunes, and we soon found ourselves in the parking area for the resort. We were met in the parking area by a staff member in a golf cart and driven the short distance to the entrance to the hotel.

Upon entering the hotel we were welcomed by the General Manager with whom we enjoyed a short chat about the hotel and its facilities while we awaited the coffees that we had ordered. We were offered the chance to see the resort, its facilities and the rooms. A golf cart was arranged for this ad-hoc tour and soon we left with one of the staff members for a drive around the resort.

Set in the stunning sand dunes around the town of Liwa, and the Liwa Oasis, in the United Arab Emirates, the Bab Al-Nojoum Bateen Liwa resort offers a choice of one-bedroom, two-bedroom or three-bedroom villas. Perhaps you would like to consider the Royal Villa that can accommodate eight persons. Each of the villas has a private plunge pool on the deck right outside the villa. How about spending the day in the pool while admiring the views over towards the infinite sand dunes, perhaps hoping to spot a camel off in the distance?

The resort promises that you will never be bored while staying on site. Various types of entertainment are offered. For example, how about keeping yourself busy with hiking trails, a visit to a camel farm, a karaoke evening, archery, board games or many other activities that promise to keep you entertained? The staff at the resort will ensure that you always have a choice of activity if that is what you prefer. While my dad and I were at the resort we noticed that they offered sandboarding. Guests had been driven to the top of the tallest sand dune on the property and they were most eager to whizz down the sand on a piece of thin plastic.

Having arrived outside one of the one-bedroom villas, we were invited to have a look inside while they were preparing the villa for the next guests. The villa is large and very comfortable and is well suited for a stay as long as you would like. The most impressive feature of the villa, however, is the outdoor infinity pool with uninterrupted views over the desert.

With the resort being in the middle of the desert, and your dining options being rather limited, the resort caters to your dining requirements in many ways. The main restaurant, called 28 Degrees, is your all-day dining experience, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner. Otherwise you may want to try the Lobby Café for a quick coffee, juice or snack. Another option is The Oasis Pool Side, offering an a-la-carte food and beverage menu so that you do not have to leave the communal pool area.

Two further dining options are the ‘in room dining’ option or the ‘Destination Dining’ option whereby you, as it says on their website, ‘Go Beyond the horizon and enjoy an outdoor picnic in the middle of the desert or do it for breakfast with our Morning Glory initiative’. If the coffee service that my dad and I enjoyed is anything to go by, you will not be disappointed by any of the dining options at the resort.

With our brief tour over, my dad and I continued our travels towards Moreeb Dune. Along the way we were lucky to spot some friendly camels so we stopped and took some photos with them.

All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Bab Al-Nojoum Bateen Liwa resort. The management and staff could not have been more friendly and welcoming. I hope to return one day as a guest of the resort and be able to enjoy the stunning views over the sand dunes while enjoying a relaxing swim in my own infinity pool outside my private villa at the resort.
