How about making your own chocolate in beautiful Bali? Driving from Seminyak to Ubud, intent on visiting the Monkey Forest, we drove past Junglegold Bali, previously called ‘Pod Chocolate Factory’. What looked like an interesting chocolate store turned into a morning of fun as we headed into the store with a plan to stock up on a selection of delicious chocolates before continuing our drive. They describe themselves on their Instagram page as ‘the world’s first fully plant-based chocolate factory’ so we were intrigued to understand just how their chocolate is made.
Browsing through the chocolate store we were offered the chance to make our own chocolate. That sounded like a fun idea, and something different to try on our vacation to Bali. We were given two packets of chocolate, one dark and one white. You are also given a choice of two ‘decoration’ options. I selected the coconut and ‘hundreds and thousands’ while Arlyn selected the cashew nuts and chocolate chips.
What started as a fun activity turned into a completion between Arlyn and me as to who could make the most attractive chocolate square. With the attention of a surgeon, we layered the chocolate into the plastic container, being ever mindful of the need to keep it looking as pretty as possible if the one was to beat the other in the competition for chocolate beauty.
Having spent around 20 minutes designing and then making our chocolate squares it was time to hand them over to the staff at the store so that they could be placed into the freezer for a short while. We took the chance to wander around the store, admiring the large collection of chocolate bars in different tastes and colors. We also enjoyed coffee while waiting for our chocolate squares to freeze.
Once the chocolate squares were retrieved from the freezer, it was time to decide between Arlyn and me which was the better looking chocolate square. Jamal was unable to give us a fair opinion so we decided that it was a tie and we headed back to the car to continue our drive to the Monkey Forest.
